Gold plated uses brass as the metal base for the chain or clasp. The coating is not actually gold and can wear off quickly in water or heat exposing the brass which is easily tarnished. Gold-filled means that the metal is 5% gold and will protect the jewelry from tarnish and wear.

Sustainably sourced means that no animals big or small are harmed while collecting shells. Each shell is thoroughly checked for inhabitants. If we can’t tell whether something is living inside we always throw the shell back to err on the side of caution. 

For our pearls and gemstones, it means we work with local distributors that source direct from Tahitian pearl farmers. We make a conscious choice to work with small, local  businesses and contribute to viability of producers.
